How to Treat Heat Rash and sunburn
Posted by tracy tse on
Taking an over-the-counter (OTC) antihistamine tablet can help to relieve the itching and any swelling of heat rash. Oral antihistamines, such as hydroxyzine and diphenhydramine, can help to relieve itching. Some types can cause drowsiness, so it may be best to use them at night.
Using an OTC hydrocortisone cream or baby diaper rash cream can help to relieve the itching and discomfort from heat rash. Applying the baby diaper rash cream 1–2 times daily can help reduce the rash in children. If people are treating babies with heat rash, do not use hydrocortisone cream. Use a natural diaper rash cream.
Sun Protection
The key to heat rash/ sun rash is prevention by using sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 and to reapply the sunscreen every two hours or more often if you're swimming or perspiring. Protect your skin with clothing and wear a wide-brimmed hat.
